Coming to Nellore for cancer care

నెల్లూరు బయటి ఊళ్ల నుంచి వచ్చే రోగులు, కుటుంబాల కోసం

Patients come to C.R. Reddy Cancer Center from across Nellore district and from Prakasam and Tirupati districts. A little planning makes each trip count: share reports before you travel, bring everything to the first visit, and ask which parts of your care can happen near home.

Before you travel

  1. Send your reports first. Clear photos or PDFs of the biopsy report, scan reports, blood tests and any discharge summary on WhatsApp to +91 79896 42272.
  2. Call to book a time. 0861 232 5344. Ask whether any test should be done before you come, and whether you should fast.
  3. Plan for a long first visit. The first consultation, with any tests on the same day, can take several hours. If a biopsy or scan is needed, it may need a second day.

What to bring

  • All reports, old and new: biopsy and histopathology reports, scan reports, blood tests, discharge summaries.
  • Scan CDs or films, not only the printed reports.
  • Biopsy slides or paraffin blocks, if you have them (they may be needed for review or further tests).
  • All medicines you take now, or clear photos of the strips.
  • Aadhaar card, and any government or insurance health card: ask the help desk whether it can be used for your treatment.
  • A family member to come with you, to listen, take notes and help with decisions.

Treatment without moving to Nellore

Most cancer treatment does not need a long stay. Many chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted treatments are given in day care, and you go home the same day; tablet treatments are taken at home with regular review visits. Treatments that do need admission, such as bone marrow transplant, are planned in advance so that the family can prepare.

Ask at each visit which tests can be done near home, when the next visit is needed, and what to do if you feel unwell between visits. Keep all reports together in one file and bring it every time.

Working with your local doctor

Your family doctor or local physician knows you best and is close by. You will get a written summary and plan to show them, and they can contact the team with questions. Doctors can read the When to refer guide for referral details and emergencies during treatment.

Fever, bleeding, breathing difficulty or sudden weakness during treatment? Go to the nearest hospital immediately or call 108. Do not travel a long distance first. Then inform the team on 0861 232 5344.

Can I send my reports before travelling to Nellore?

Yes. Send clear photos or PDFs of the biopsy report, scan reports, recent blood tests and discharge summaries on WhatsApp to +91 79896 42272, and call 0861 232 5344 to book a time. The team can tell you whether any test should be done before you travel, so the first visit is not wasted.

Do I need to stay in Nellore during chemotherapy?

Usually not. Many chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted treatments are given in day care, and patients travel home the same day. Some treatments, such as bone marrow transplant or intensive treatment for some blood cancers, need a hospital stay. Your treatment plan will say how often you need to come.

Can blood tests and follow-up be done near my home?

Often, yes. Blood counts before a treatment cycle can sometimes be done at a laboratory near your home and sent on WhatsApp. Ask the team whether this is suitable for your treatment; some tests must be done at the hospital.

What should I do if I get fever at home during chemotherapy?

Fever during chemotherapy is an emergency. Go to the nearest hospital immediately; do not travel a long distance first. Call 108 if needed, and inform the C.R. Reddy Cancer Center team so they can speak with the treating doctors.

Can my local doctor be involved in my care?

Yes. You will receive a written summary and plan to show your local doctor, who can contact the team. Shared care with a family doctor near home makes long treatment easier for many families.
