Every brain tumour is cancer?

Brain tumours can be benign (not cancer) or malignant (cancer). But even a benign tumour can be serious because of where it is or how it grows.
మెదడు గడ్డలు ప్రమాదం లేనివి (క్యాన్సర్ కానివి) గానీ, ప్రమాదకరమైనవి (క్యాన్సర్) గానీ కావచ్చు. కానీ ప్రమాదం లేని గడ్డ కూడా అది ఉన్న చోటు లేదా పెరిగే తీరు వల్ల తీవ్రమైనది కావచ్చు.

"Tumour" and "cancer" are often used to mean the same thing, so being told there is a tumour in the brain is often heard as a diagnosis of cancer.

Many brain tumours are benign, such as meningiomas (which grow from the brain's covering), pituitary tumours and nerve-sheath tumours. They grow slowly and don't spread through the body. But the skull is a closed space, so even a benign tumour can cause problems by pressing on the brain, nerves or blood vessels. Malignant tumours, such as gliomas, grow into the surrounding brain and need more intensive treatment.

Ask your doctor exactly what type of tumour it is, whether it is benign or malignant, and what that means for treatment. Don't assume the worst from the word "tumour".
