Once PSA becomes undetectable after treatment, prostate cancer can never come back?
Prostate cancer can still return. Regular PSA tests are important after both surgery and radiotherapy, though the results are read differently after each.

Why people believe it
An undetectable PSA after treatment is wonderful news, and many men take it to mean they are cured for good.
What the evidence shows
After surgery, PSA should fall to an undetectable level; a later rise can be the first sign that cancer has returned, often years before any symptoms. After radiotherapy, PSA falls more slowly and may not become undetectable, so doctors watch for a rise above its lowest point. A rising PSA found early can often still be treated, sometimes with the aim of cure.
What you can do
Keep up your PSA tests as your doctor advises, even years after treatment, and keep a record of your results.
