Why be careful?
క్షయ, ఊపిరితిత్తుల క్యాన్సర్ — రెండింటిలోనూ దగ్గు, బరువు తగ్గడం, కఫంలో రక్తం వంటి ఒకే రకం లక్షణాలు ఉంటాయి.
TB and lung cancer cause the same symptoms: cough, weight loss and blood in the sputum.
ఎక్స్-రే చూసి మాత్రమే క్షయ మందులు మొదలుపెట్టకూడదు.
TB medicines should not be started on an X-ray alone.
క్షయ మందులు మొదలుపెట్టే ముందు యంత్రంతో చేసే కఫ పరీక్ష తప్పకుండా చేయించుకోండి. ప్రభుత్వ ఆసుపత్రుల్లో ఇది ఉచితం.
Before TB treatment, have a molecular sputum test (CBNAAT/TrueNat). It is free in government hospitals.

When to test for cancer too

Which tests?

A CT scan, then bronchoscopy (a camera tube through the throat) or a biopsy.

One sample can be tested for both TB and cancer.
