Chemotherapy makes cancer spread faster?
Chemotherapy is designed to destroy or hold back cancer cells. Cancer sometimes grows despite treatment because it becomes resistant, but chemotherapy doesn't cause it to spread.
If you are worried that treatment isn't working, ask your doctor how your response is being measured, and what the next options would be.

Why people believe it
When cancer progresses during or after chemotherapy, families sometimes conclude that the treatment made it worse.
What the evidence shows
Some cancers are, or become, resistant to a particular drug, and continue to grow despite it. That is the cancer's behaviour, not an effect of the chemotherapy. When this happens, doctors usually switch to a different treatment. Avoiding chemotherapy out of this fear can allow a treatable cancer to grow.
