Testing the tumour for certain features guides treatment, especially for advanced cancer. Cancers with mismatch repair deficiency (dMMR, also called MSI-high) often respond very well to immunotherapy. Some medicines (anti-EGFR antibodies) only work if the RAS genes are normal. BRAF and HER2 changes have their own targeted treatments.
