For selected women with very small, early cervical cancers, surgeons can remove only the cervix (trachelectomy) or a cone of tissue, leaving the womb in place, and pregnancy may still be possible afterwards. For women who need radiotherapy, options such as freezing eggs or embryos, or surgically moving the ovaries away from the radiation area, may help preserve fertility or hormone function. These options are only available if they are planned before treatment starts.
