Radiotherapy doesn't work for cervical cancer?

Radiotherapy, including brachytherapy (internal radiotherapy), is the main treatment that cures many locally advanced cervical cancers, usually given together with chemotherapy.

Some people believe only surgery can truly remove a cancer, and that radiotherapy is used only when nothing else is possible.

For cervical cancers that are too large or too widespread in the pelvis for surgery, the standard treatment, given with the aim of cure, is external radiotherapy combined with weekly chemotherapy, followed by brachytherapy. Brachytherapy places a radiation source inside, close to the cervix, to give a high dose directly to the tumour. Leaving out brachytherapy greatly lowers the chance of cure.

రేడియోథెరపీ సూచిస్తే, బ్రాకీథెరపీతో సహా పూర్తి కోర్సును ఎక్కువ విరామాలు లేకుండా పూర్తి చేయండి. చికిత్సలో విరామాలు నయమయ్యే అవకాశాన్ని తగ్గిస్తాయి.
If radiotherapy is recommended, complete the whole course, including brachytherapy, without long breaks. Gaps in treatment lower the chance of cure.
