A normal CA-125 blood test rules out ovarian cancer?

CA-125 can be normal in early ovarian cancer, and raised by many harmless conditions. On its own, it can neither confirm nor rule out cancer.

CA-125 is normal in many early ovarian cancers. It can also be raised by periods, pregnancy, endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic infection and liver disease, especially in younger women. Doctors use it together with an ultrasound and the woman's symptoms and age. It is most useful for monitoring treatment in women already known to have ovarian cancer.
