Leukaemias are divided into acute (fast-developing) and chronic (slow-developing), and into lymphoid and myeloid types, giving the four main types: ALL, AML, CLL and CML. Each has subtypes. For example, one form of AML, acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL), is an emergency at diagnosis, yet is one of the most curable leukaemias with the right treatment.
