A little alcohol is fine once liver cancer or cirrhosis has been treated?

With cirrhosis or liver cancer, no amount of alcohol is safe. Stopping completely protects the liver and keeps more treatment options open.

In a damaged liver, even small amounts of alcohol add to the injury, speed up scarring and raise the risk of a new liver cancer. Alcohol also slows recovery after surgery and other treatments. Most liver cancer treatments need a liver that works well, and a liver transplant usually requires a firm commitment to stop drinking. Help is available: counselling and medicines can reduce cravings.
