If scans stay clear for two years after treatment, check-ups are no longer needed?

After liver cancer treatment, most new cancers appear in the liver. Those in the first two years usually come from the original tumour, but later ones are often completely new cancers caused by the same hepatitis, cirrhosis or fatty liver. That is why scans and AFP tests are usually done every 3 to 6 months for the first two years, then every 6 months, for at least five years and then for life. A new cancer found early can often be treated again with surgery, ablation or other treatments.
