Herbal medicines or liver tonics can cure liver cancer or cirrhosis?
No herbal medicine or liver tonic has been shown to cure liver cancer or reverse cirrhosis. Some can harm the liver further.
Why people believe it
Liver tonics are advertised everywhere, and people hope for a gentle, natural cure.
What the evidence shows
Liver cancer is treated with surgery, ablation, liver transplant, treatments given directly into the liver and medicines proven in large clinical trials. No herbal product or tonic has shown similar results in such trials. The liver processes everything we swallow, and some herbal and "liver-cleansing" products have caused liver injury. That is especially dangerous in a liver already weakened by cirrhosis. Delaying proven treatment to try such remedies can let a curable cancer grow beyond the point of cure.
What you can do
Tell your doctor about every tablet, powder or tonic you take, including herbal products. Do not stop or delay the treatment advised for an unproven remedy.
