After radiotherapy, the patient is radioactive and should stay away from family?

In external beam radiotherapy, which is used for lung cancer, the machine directs radiation at the tumour from outside the body. When the machine is switched off, no radiation remains in you, just as no light remains after a torch is switched off. You can go home, cook, sleep beside your family and hold children. Only a few special treatments with radioactive implants or injections, which are rarely used for lung cancer, need short-term precautions, and your team would tell you clearly if that applies.
