Multiple myeloma is simply another name for bone cancer?

Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells, which normally make antibodies. It starts in the bone marrow and can damage bones, but it is not a primary bone cancer like osteosarcoma.

Plasma cells are a type of white blood cell in the bone marrow that make antibodies to fight infection. In myeloma, abnormal plasma cells multiply, produce an abnormal protein, and release substances that weaken bones, causing pain, holes in the bones (lytic lesions) and fractures. It is a blood cancer, treated with medicines by haematologists and oncologists, not with bone surgery like osteosarcoma.
