Survival differs greatly between cancers, and even between people with the same diagnosis. Averages can't accurately predict any one person's survival.

People often read a single survival figure online and assume it applies to them.

Survival figures describe groups of people, often treated years ago, before newer treatments were available. A "median survival" means half the people lived longer than that figure, sometimes much longer. Each person's outlook depends on their cancer type and features, how much it has spread, their general health and how they respond.
