Cancer that has spread to another organ becomes a completely different cancer?

Breast cancer that spreads to the liver is still breast cancer, not liver cancer. Treatment generally follows the original cancer type and its features.

When cancer spreads (metastasises), the cells in the new place are still the same type as the original cancer. Breast cancer in the liver behaves like breast cancer, and is treated with breast cancer medicines. Sometimes a biopsy of the new site is taken to confirm this, and to re-test features that guide treatment, which can change over time.
