A thyroid swelling that doesn't hurt can't be cancer?

Thyroid cancer often appears as a painless nodule. A growing lump, persistent hoarseness, difficulty swallowing or suspicious neck nodes need a check.

Most thyroid cancers cause no pain at all, and are noticed as a lump in the front of the neck, by the person, a family member, or on a scan done for another reason. Pain is not a useful guide.
