Chemotherapy for bladder cancer always means injections into a vein?
Some early bladder cancers are treated with medicine placed directly into the bladder through a catheter. BCG, often used this way, is a form of immunotherapy, not chemotherapy.

What the evidence shows
For many non-muscle-invasive bladder cancers, medicine is placed into the bladder through a thin tube (catheter) and held there for an hour or two before being passed out with the urine. This is called intravesical treatment. It may be a chemotherapy drug, or BCG, a weakened form of the bacteria used in the TB vaccine, which stimulates the immune system to attack cancer cells in the bladder. Because the medicine stays in the bladder, side effects are mainly bladder irritation, rather than effects on the whole body.
What you can do
Ask your doctor which treatment you will have, how many sessions are planned, and how to handle your urine safely on treatment days.
