Brain surgery is what most people picture when they hear "brain tumour", and fear of it makes some people delay seeing a doctor.

There are many ways to treat brain tumours. Some are only monitored with scans. Surgery today uses microscopes, navigation systems and smaller openings, and some pituitary tumours are removed through the nose without any cut on the head. Stereotactic radiosurgery, such as Gamma Knife or CyberKnife, treats small tumours with precisely focused radiation and no incision. Other options include conventional radiotherapy and chemotherapy or targeted medicines.
