Only people with a family history get colorectal cancer?
Most colorectal cancers occur in people with no inherited syndrome or strong family history.

A family history does raise the risk, and inherited conditions such as Lynch syndrome and familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) cause a small proportion of cases. But most colorectal cancers develop in people with no affected relatives, from changes that build up over a lifetime.
