After radiotherapy to the mouth, a tooth can be removed at any clinic like anyone else?

Removing a tooth from a jaw that has had radiotherapy can make the bone die (osteoradionecrosis). It should be planned with your cancer team and done carefully by an experienced dentist or oral surgeon.

Radiotherapy reduces the blood supply of the jaw bone for life. A wound from an extraction may not heal, leaving exposed, painful bone that can break or get infected. This is why bad teeth are removed before radiotherapy, and why daily fluoride and six-monthly dental checks are advised afterwards.
