Targeted tablets block the specific gene change that drives some lung cancers, such as EGFR or ALK. In these patients, tablets shrink the cancer in most cases and keep it controlled for longer than chemotherapy, often for years. They are taken at home and allow many people to continue normal life. They only help when the matching gene change is present, which is why biomarker testing on the biopsy is so important before starting treatment.
