Why people believe it

Pancreatic cancer is usually diagnosed in older people, so symptoms in younger adults are rarely suspected.

What the evidence shows

Most people with pancreatic cancer are over 60. But it can occur in people in their 40s and 50s, and occasionally younger, especially those with inherited gene changes such as BRCA2, or with a family history of pancreatic cancer or long-standing pancreatitis.
