Heat-scan tests are offered as painless, radiation-free and touch-free, sometimes with computer or AI reading, which makes them attractive, especially in camps and wellness packages.

Thermal imaging looks for warm areas on the skin of the breast. In studies, it missed many cancers and raised many false alarms, and no major medical organisation recommends it for screening. The US Food and Drug Administration has repeatedly warned that thermography is not a substitute for mammography. A normal heat scan can give false reassurance and delay a proper test.

Do not use a thermal scan in place of a mammogram or a clinical breast examination. If you have a breast lump or other change, see a doctor for proper tests, whatever a heat scan showed.
