After bladder cancer treatment, follow-up tests aren't needed if there are no symptoms?

Bladder cancer can return or progress without causing symptoms. Follow-up schedules depend on the tumour's risk, its stage and the treatment received.

Most bladder cancer recurrences are found on routine cystoscopy or scans before they cause any symptoms, when they are easier to treat. The schedule depends on your situation: people with non-muscle-invasive cancer need regular cystoscopies, while those who have had their bladder removed need scans, kidney function tests and, for some, vitamin B12 checks.
