A normal CT scan completely rules out a brain tumour?

CT is very good at showing bleeding, fractures and many larger abnormalities, which is why it is used in emergencies. But some tumours, especially small ones, low-grade tumours, or those near the base of the skull or the back of the brain, can be hard to see on CT. MRI gives much more detail of brain tissue, and contrast dye helps show tumours more clearly.

If symptoms continue despite a normal CT scan, go back to your doctor and ask whether an MRI is needed.
