Fear of the needle stops many women from getting a biopsy, often because of a belief that it will "disturb" the cancer and make it spread.

Needle biopsies are a safe, standard test, and research has not shown that they make breast cancer spread. A biopsy is the only way to know exactly what a lump is, and the result guides the right treatment.
