Frequent fever always means an ordinary infection?

Most fevers are infections. But fever that persists or keeps returning without explanation, especially with paleness, bruising, bleeding or tiredness, needs a blood count.

Leukaemia lowers the number of healthy white cells, so people get more infections, and fevers that keep coming back. It also lowers red cells and platelets, causing paleness, tiredness, bruising and bleeding. When fever comes with these other signs, a simple blood count can quickly show whether something more serious is going on.

- Repeated infections, or infections that are slow to clear

If fevers keep returning, or come with any of these signs, ask for a complete blood count.
