A normal ultrasound rules out stomach cancer?

An abdominal ultrasound can't reliably see cancers of the stomach lining. An upper GI endoscopy with biopsy is the main test.

Ultrasound is good for organs such as the liver, gallbladder and kidneys, but the stomach is full of air and food, and early cancers grow in its thin inner lining, where ultrasound can't see them. An upper GI endoscopy looks directly at the lining and allows biopsies to be taken.
