Seizure tablets can be stopped as soon as the fits stop?

Stopping seizure medicine suddenly can bring back seizures, sometimes more severe ones. Any change should be planned with your doctor.

When fits have stopped, the tablets seem unnecessary, and side effects or cost make people want to stop.

Seizures from a brain tumour come from irritated brain around the tumour, which often persists after treatment. In people with gliomas who had been seizure-free for a long time, about one in four had seizures again after stopping medicine. Doctors may reduce medicine slowly after a long seizure-free period if the tumour is stable. People who have never had a seizure usually do not need these tablets at all.

Do not stop or skip seizure tablets on your own. Do not drive until your doctor says it is safe. If side effects such as irritability bother you, ask about a different medicine.
